MIT reports assistant professor Thomas Rose, 37 and an expert in ancient metallurgy who had just started at MIT in January, died yesterday "due to injuries sustained during a bicycle accident" at Massachusetts Avenue and Memorial Drive.

A Worcester man was ordered held in lieu of $250,000 bail on a manslaughter charge for the fatal stabbing of Wesley Humphrey, 30, also of Worcester, on Harvard Street near Blue Hill Avenue in Dorchester around 3:15 a.m. on Aug. 17, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.
