Imagine a Green Line extension to Chelsea - via the Tobin

May 5

Vanshnookenraggen takes a deep dive into ways to get Chelsea rapid transit that doesn't involve delays caused by a bridge over Chelsea Creek going up. He starts with why densely packed Chelsea doesn't have regular rail service (all those hills), considers and then rules out possible Orange and Blue Line extension before explaining how the Green Line might be extended into the city - via existing but currently unused loop tracks at Government Center (under Cop Slide) and a right-of-way on a third deck on the Tobin Bridge. What? The Tobin might need extensive renovation or even replacement at some point, he writes, adding that a possible interim step would be adding that third deck, but using it at first for bus rapid transit.
